✅ The single market is one of the most successful achievements of European integration. But it has not unleashed its full potential!
📈 With more EU actions, we could tackle the remaining unnecessary barriers in the single market and boost intra-EU trade in goods and services. A stronger single market could also greatly help business competitiveness and bring greater product choice and higher quality, lower prices and improve consumer protection.
While European integration has made substantial progress, many opportunities remain for the EU to improve citizens' daily lives. Our study ‘Ten ways that Europe could do more for you - Mapping the cost of non-Europe’ highlights these opportunities and supports the European Parliament in setting the policy agenda.

Air pollution is the single largest environmental health risk in the EU and causes significant damage to ecosystems. As part of the European Green Deals zero pollution ambition, on 26 October 2022 the Commission tabled a proposal for a revision of the Ambient Air Quality Directives. The proposed directive would set air quality standards for 2030 that are more closely aligned with the Word Health Organizations recommendations, as updated in 2021. It would also include a mechanism for the standards regular review based on the latest scientific information. To achieve them on time, the Member States would have to establish air quality plans ahead of 2030.
