During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence of depression and anxiety increased significantly, across the EU. Young people were especially impacted, with symptoms of depression more than doubling or even tripling in several EU countries.

The increase in the cost of living, the climate crisis and Russia's war on Ukraine can also worsen EU citizens' mental health.
