This was such a random improvement. This run is literally my second attempt when ending a 3 hour time trial session playing other tracks and not this one. I don't think I've ever had a one try PB before, but this is the next best thing, all the while getting it on stream.

I always had plans to eventually start learning how to do the turn skip and make a charge back up the charts. I started some practice earlier this week with around 2-4 hours put in. This was my first two attempts on console after practice which was the craziest thing. I think this run shows how much potential there is with learning turn skip, while also showing just how hard it is to pull it off and convert afterward to have it save the most amount of time and still drive the rest of the race well.

Shoutout to WhatIsLoaf for all of his wonderful time trial tools, including his input viewer. I finally got around to learning how to use it a few days ago for the WR history videos. Some thoughtful key framing in Premiere Pro and some Photoshop assets I made helped to make the input viewer look seamless and a part of the actual game's HUD. Looks nice!

Lap 1 - 45.195

If you watch the VOD, this is literally my second attempt. No warm up at all. As a result the driving in this is quite messy for a lot of it, with the beginning half of lap 1 before the turn skip being no exception. Compared to a good 1st half I lost a good 200-300ms pre-turn skip. The turnskip went very well. The hardest part is the timing off the tree branch and timing the horizontal hops properly, that's probably going to be the hardest thing to learn. I was in such shock I made it so fast that I really fumbled my recovery. My poor 2nd half of the lap lost over 300ms. Doing an average ending after the turnskip I quickly got a 44.843 lap 1 on Dolphin correcting the run, and that doesn't even get a triple net either.

Lap 2 - 45.548

Probably the best driven lap in the run. It starts to make notable mistakes when exiting the tree hut after the tree top, followed by a poor U-Turn and a half chain wheelie. All of these factors prevented being fast enough for a triple net cycle, and my low hops on the net were not great. Quite surprised it was still as fast as it was with those ending mistakes.

Lap 3 - 45.686

Most of the 1st half was performed as good as I could have hoped until the entrance to the tree top. Thankfully got the wheelie out, but my alignment was horrid. Tree top mistakes, bad U-Turn, turn drop wheelie, no triple net cycle and bad net hops are all of the sources of time loss for this run. Still good enough for a near 300ms PB improvement, and going from 9th Worldwide back to 5th Worldwide.

I started to try and learn some of the harder strats on several tracks for some grinds I want to do for the rest of the year, including this track. My ultimate goal is to get close enough to contest the record here once more with learning the turn skip. My first goal currently is getting back to 2nd Worldwide and chipping at it slowly from there. We'll see where this lands in the future. Thanks for watching.
