Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced for dangerous driving in
Oxford.

Terence Hedley, aged 49, of Gwyneth Road, Oxford, pleaded guilty to one count each of dangerous
driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a license, driving while over the specified limit of a
controlled drug namely benzoylecgonine and driving without insurance.

He was sentenced to a year and six months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (26/8) and disqualified from driving for three years and nine months.

The sentence relates to an incident on 17 May last year.
Officers on the M40 became aware of a van driving with incorrect number plates.

When officers put their lights on and instructed the vehicle to stop, Hedley continued to drive. Hedley sped up, travelling at speeds in excess of 90mph. Hedley took exit 8a for Oxford, and came to a roundabout, where he did not slow or look to brake at
all to give way to any traffic and sped across the roundabout.
He went on to perform some dangerous overtakes on the wrong side of the road, before officers managed to use a stick to burst Hedley’s tyres to get him to slow down and eventually stop.

One of the investigating officers, PC Martin Woodford of the Joint Roads Policing Unit based at Amersham police station, said: “As the roads policing unit we will target offenders who drive whilst impaired and driving dangerously to keep the public safe on the roads.

“People committing these offences will be put before the courts.”

Another of the investigating officers, PC Richard Martin also of the Joint Roads Policing Unit based at Amersham police station, said: “Despite being asked to stop, Hedley drove dangerously in his attempt to evade officers.

“This put people’s lives at risk and thankfully no one was injured, however it could have ended very
differently.”
