jameskalmroughcut | Man Ray & Picabia at VITO SCHNABEL Lee Krasner at KASMIN @jameskalmroughcut | Uploaded April 2021 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
James Kalm has pasted together a pair of early spring visits to historic exhibitions. First, a stop at Vito Schnabel for a look at “Man Ray & Picabia”. This double show of enigmatic paintings by close friends and collaborators of Marcel Duchamp (during his association with Dada and Surrealism) is ironic given his well-known derision of the practice and prestige of painting. Then your correspondent zips up the West Side to Kasmin Gallery, for an after closing time stroll through of “Lee Krasner Collage Paintings 1938-1981.” Krasner has been an under-seen, and underappreciated artist, who deserves serious consideration. Many of the pieces in this exhibition employ cut up drawings made by Krasner during her studies with Hans Hofmann during the 1930s. A musical introduction is provided by Scott Stenten. This program was recorded March 27, 2021. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
