Part 1 of creating my original iconography gown design for Princess Bubblegum! Check back for the rest of this series!

Bubblegum's baroque candy people sculpture was the main thing this gown was designed around, so we put a lot of thought into the materials, attachments, and how to get as much detail as possible out of it!

We went back and forth for a while between casting materials, but in the end we ended up sculpting it out of clay, casting in Featherlite Resin from Smooth-On, and then covering the entire thing in gold leaf. This kept it pretty lightweight, but also meant we got more details and a smoother surface than some foam can provide. Attaching it was a little tough, but my favorite trick for things like this is to sew worbla to your fabric piece, and then use those pieces as glue supports for the larger hard object.
