Earlier this year I made a 1912 dress with Butterick retro pattern B6093 themed for the American Suffrage Movement. The 1910's were a HUGE time for the American Suffrage Movement. From the 1913 Women's Procession in Washington D.C. and then the start of WWI where women showed the country just how valuable they are.

I had been wanting to make a Suffragist dress for quite some time. I had meant to make it in 2020, but then only got the sash done, so here we are 4 years later, in another election year, and the time felt right. I led a suffrage station during a homeschool day at my old job which gave me a good deadline to get the dress done by.

I made this dress out of white bedsheets and white was the main color suffragists wore. It stood out well in Black and white photographs, provided a unified look, and combated unfeminine stereotypes they were up against.
