In this video I share how to make a big, squishy blanket using a modified version of the "blanket" stitch. This is even easier and faster resulting in a similar look with a beautiful fabric with excellent "drape".
A 4x5 ft blanket will take approx 6-8 hours of crochet time depending on your speed. For example, each ball took me 1.5 hours to crochet.
Hook & Yarn
4 x 5 ft blanket
(121 x 152 cm)
4 skeins (300g 220 yards per skein)

🧶 Pattern Free Version:
Foundation Chain:
Ch an even number for your desired width. Add 2 ch for the turning chain.
Row 1:
Working into the 2nd ch from hook, *(sc, dc) in same st, sk 1 ch; repeat from * across. End with 1 sc in the last ch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2 (Pattern Repeat):
*(sc, dc) in sc from the previous row, sk next st; repeat from * across. End with 1 sc in last st. Ch 1, turn.
Tip: You’ll be working into every second stitch—specifically the sc from the previous row.
Repeat Row 2 until blanket reaches desired length.
To change colors at the end of a row:
– Begin a sc as normal, but pull new color through the last 2 loops on hook.
– Ch 1, turn, and continue in new color.
Finishing Touches
– Weave in ends with a tapestry needle or large finishing needle.
– Optionally, dab ends with Fray Check for extra security (useful for chenille yarns).
