Samantha Ballard | Make Any Song EASY | The First Step to Arranging for Harp @SamanthaBallard | Uploaded 3 years ago | Updated 1 day ago
In this video I'll show you how to write your very first arrangement in MINUTES! Of course, this is just the very beginning, so if you want the shortcut to everything I've learned about arranging for harp, as a harpist, join the early-bird waitlist for my upcoming course: arrangingforharpists.com/course
The first thing we need to understand is the idea of melody and harmony in music. In the exercise in this video, we'll boil down a song you've got in your library down to its most essential parts.
Choose a song you already have that has parts for both hands, something a little busier side will work well. You can write out a new version of the song, or play from the original, while understanding you won't be playing every note written.
For the left hand, play only the first note in each measure, and leave the rest out.
For the right hand, remove anything other than the parts you would sing. This means taking out any chords, possibly ornaments, and filler.
