During a military parade in February of 2018, North Korea displayed, for the first time, a new short-range solid fuel ballistic missile. Since 2015, North Korea has increased their efforts to indigenously produce larger, longer range solid fuel ballistic missiles, with the center of that activity taking place in the Hamhung area.
The Magun-po solid fuel test facility is North Korea’s main location for the testing of these new solid fuel missile systems. With the recent expansion of their solid fuel missile part production facility in Hamhung, Magun-po will likely remain a key facility in North Korea’s effort to produce more advanced missiles systems.
