In this video we build a custom trepanning tool to remove excess epoxy from the bore of a superconducting dipole magnet. The tool is designed to cut on the end surface only and will be used to remove excess Stycast epoxy from the bore of a Canted cosine theta CORC cable superconducting magnet. This magnet is under construction by the Magnet Development Program at Berkeley Lab which I support as part of my day job. The Stycast epoxy is used to stabilize the conductor during operation. CORC wire or cable is a special round high temperature superconductor made from flat tape helically wound around a core material to form a cable. This is then wound into grooves in the magnet mandrel and vacuum potted with epoxy.
