How crowded is the inside of a cell? Greg Brittingham explains his research into the functional effects of macromolecular crowding in cells. Macromolecules are things like DNA, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. Do these molecules have a more difficult time getting where they need to go in more crowded cells?
