In this video, Dr. D-Flo marries the love of his life! But before that can happen, he needs gifts for his groomsmen. As a DIYer / Maker, it would have been frowned upon for Dr. D-Flo to purchase cookie-cutter products for some of his closest friends and family members. Wanting to make something practical, Dr. D-Flo landed on the idea of a CNC machined bottle opener personalized for each groomsman.

At first glance, this hefty bottle opener appears to have a relatively simple geometry, but tapers and chamfers that change thicknesses require 3D toolpaths to properly machine. This video differentiates between 2D and 3D toolpaths and discusses when to use 3D toolpaths, like scallops and parallels.

To machine the backside of the bottle opener, Dr. D-Flo used soft jaws that were cut to match the contour of bottle opener. This provided repeatable workholding that allowed for the backside operations to match up perfectly with the front of the bottle opener.

The video wraps up with some footage from the big wedding day!
