Macallan is back with the third release in their A Night on Earth series — and this time, they’re taking us to Jerez de la Frontera, the spiritual home of sherry and the heart of Spain’s New Year’s Eve celebration, known as Nochevieja.
This one’s extra special, marking the final release in Macallan’s 200th anniversary year. It’s a whisky designed not just to sip, but to reflect. To gather with loved ones, look back on the year that’s passed, and raise a glass to what’s coming next.
The whisky itself is matured in a mix of European and American oak casks, both seasoned with sherry wine in Jerez — the same casks Macallan is so famously known for. But this release is also about storytelling and tradition. In Spain, New Year’s Eve is all about the 12 grapes at midnight — a tradition going back to the 19th century. Eat a grape with each bell strike, and you’re promised a lucky year ahead. That spirit of joy and optimism is what this bottle tries to capture.
And to make it even more personal, Macallan teamed up with Jerez-born artist Maria Melero, who designed the vibrant, celebratory packaging based on her own childhood memories of the season.
