Venezuela M7.5, Japan M6.9, California M5.6 β three strong earthquakes hit within the same 24-hour window, but each one broke the Earth in a different way.
A powerful M7.5 / M7.2 doublet struck Venezuela, where the Caribbean Plate and South American Plate slide past each other along a transform / strike-slip boundary. Then a M6.9 earthquake struck northern Japan, where the Pacific Plate dives beneath Japan along the Japan Trench subduction zone. And in Northern California, a M5.6 quake struck near Redwood Valley, close to the Mendocino Triple Junction, where the Pacific, North American, and Gorda plates meet.
Same day. Three regions. Three different ways the Earth breaks: strike-slip, subduction, and triple-junction stress.
In this video, I break down what happened, where the quakes hit, why the plate boundaries matter, and whether these events are connected through the broader Pacific Ring of Fire pattern. This is still a developing story, and official magnitudes, depths, and impact reports may continue to change.

![Blood Moon 2026 | The Moon Is About to Turn Red | When to Look Up
On Thursday night, the Moon slides into Earths shadow and turns
a deep red. Heres exactly when to look up, what youll see at
each stage, and why it happens at all.
Everything below is Central Time. Convert for your location.
β± ECLIPSE TIMELINE β Thursday, August 27 (Central Time)
Penumbral begins β 8:23 PM CDT / 01:23 UTC
The Moon dims slightly. Subtle β most people miss it.
Partial (umbral) begins β 9:33 PM CDT / 02:33 UTC
Earths shadow takes a visible bite out of the Moon.
Maximum eclipse β 11:12 PM CDT / 04:12 UTC
Peak color. 96.3% of the Moon inside Earths umbra.
Partial ends β 12:51 AM CDT / 05:51 UTC
Penumbral ends β 2:01 AM CDT / 07:01 UTC
Eastern: add 1 hour. Mountain: subtract 1. Pacific: subtract 2.
This is a deep partial eclipse β a thin bright sliver stays lit
at maximum. Its the deepest partial lunar eclipse until
December 31, 2028.
Peak color. [96%] coverage from the Leander / Austin area.
Visible across North America, South America, and Canada.
π΄ WHY DOES THE MOON TURN RED?
The Moon isnt losing all its light β its losing all its BLUE
light. Sunlight passing through the edge of Earths atmosphere
gets scattered, and blue scatters away first. Only the red
wavelengths bend through and reach the lunar surface.
Youre watching every sunrise and sunset on Earth, projected
onto the Moon at once.
