DongledAction Man Search for Base X, is a Game Boy Color Exclusive. Released in 2001 just a few months prior to the Game Boy Advance's launch, it quickly became a forgotten piece of licensed games history, shoving off into gaming oblivion. Developed by Natsume and published by THQ, the game invokes a throwback to the wonky, wild days of the NES era. But does this game rival Natsume's 8-bit masterpieces or does it fall flat? Splitting from Natsume Co. Ltd. in 1995, Natsume Inc. began publishing a wide variety of games mostly in North America. From tales of what happened to the later years of the Harvest Moon series to discussion of the publisher’s focus on handhelds (almost exclusively,) the XVGM Radio boys take shovel to dirt to uncover some of Natsume Inc’s publishing history and how the Natsume Co. Ltd still sometimes worked with them on many projects. You’ll hear a few throwback tracks to the Co. Ltd days with composers like Iku Mizutani and Kinuyo Yamashita while exploring new ground with a bevy of RPGs, fishing games and….anime hamsters?! Yep, That’s XVGM Radio, alright. Stay tuned for a future episode where we bring you part 3 (sometime in 2023.)

These are exclusive to the Konami online store and were pre-orders. Slight correction on the price, they are currently $32.99 but I got them on a 10% off thanks to a coupon acquired via email they sent me. Currently it appears they're up for grabs again here:
These were not sent to me from Konami, I purchased them myself. I'm not being paid by Konami, nor do I have a sponsorship with them just as a heads up.

Since 1987, Natsumi, a company created by ex-Konami employees, has been one of the best developers from the 8 and 16 bit eras of gaming. Hear about the beginnings of the developer and eventual self-publisher, which started out as Natsume Co. Ltd. From 1987 until 1995, the company was host to some of the best soundtracks available. We scratch the surface on these incredible, high energy tracks from the NES, Game Boy, Super NES…and even a PC Engine game?! It'll need some cleanup in terms of bugs, but here's a video detailing some of the changes made to the original. Will it ever top the original Simon's Quest for me? ABSOLUTELY NOT. But it has the possibility to be one of the best fan games since Lecarde Chronicles 2!
This is a fan game from BMC War Machine and though I took part in beta testing it, this is not a paid advertisement for the game. Just putting together some thoughts on the first publicly released version.

New Episode! Starting off 2023, our 5th year as a podcast, we’re joined once again by our good pal, NikoTengoku! The Super Famicom (or as we know it outside of Japan, the Super NES) is host to a COLOSSAL list of excellent game soundtracks, but the Japan exclusive stuff usually gets overlooked. Niko helps us pick 10 awesome tracks that we know you’re gonna love, along with a very, VERY silly episode as per usual with Niko. Castlevania 64 RETROSPECTIVE REVIEWDongled2023-01-17 | Castlevania 64 is often considered a colossal failure of a game in the eyes of many, but to some, it (and its successor Legacy of Darkness) can be considered a fitting end to the Classicvania series. Big, bold and sometimes clunky, Castlevania 64 is the end result of a team that had never created a 3D game before. But underneath a rugged exterior is a heart of gold which took the franchise in a bold, exciting direction. Castlevania 64 was certainly a product of the times...a time many of us long to remember. So sit back, grab some snacks and get ready for the ultimate look back at Castlevania 64. Is Reindhardt Schneider really a Belmont? What's the deal with Skeletons Riding Motorcycles? Are Sexy Spider Women really that hot? All this and more as we join Reindhardt Schneider and Carrie Fernandez on their quest to rid the world of the evil that man has done yet again.
Mike's been kidnapped! Swept off to a mysterious castle, he finds himself in familiar company with Dracula himself. Can he escape? Do these skits even matter anymore? Find out on an all new Dude, You Haven't Played This Game?!

Jeremy Blaustein Interview | Castlevania Symphony of the NightDongled2023-01-12 | I got the chance to do one of the first ever Castlevania Symphony of the Night centric interviews with the English Translator of the game: Jeremy Blaustein. We talked about nuanced details about his literary influences on things like enemy names (things like Legion and some of the weapons.) We touched on what translating or localizing a game really meant back in the day as compared to now with his answers shocking me about the process. And of course, we discussed the infamous "WHAT IS A MAN?" line, confirming from other sources officially for the first time. Grab a drink and sit down for an extremely informative interview with the man behind the english translation of Castlevania Symphony of the Night!
Big thanks to Mr. Blaustein for sitting down with me for this audio interview. Currently, he has his own translation company for video games called DragonBaby. You can check out their stuff here: dragonbaby.com Or on Twitter at: DragonbabyLoc

However, this was also during the era where Sony attempted to take on the task of toppling Nintendo’s handheld juggernaut abilities. Enter the Sony Playstation Portable, Sony’s first major foray into the handheld market. Many games from the PS2 were given handheld versions on the PSP and while this is an interesting discussion point, the guys at XVGM Radio decided to just bask in the glory of the 6th generation, Sony style. Today’s episode is an exploration into some PS2 and PSP games with the occasional example of crossover. Mike threatens to discuss Castlevania until he turns blue, all while we learn about Justin’s price point on Amazon. From racist Mega Man boss discussions to feeling inadequate thanks to a royal pain in the butt, today’s a great way to break open some Thanksgiving Day leftovers and enjoy some PS2/PSP nostalgia discussion!

Twitter: @DYHPTGAvenging Spirit Game Boy Unboxing: WHY DID I BUY THIS? A DISCUSSION ON ORIGINAL VS RERELEASEDongled2022-11-15 | Retro-Bit has been putting out retro re-releases with updated box art and in some cases, cutscenes that are brand new to non-Japanese audiences. A good example is Metal Storm as well as today's game unboxing: Avenging Spirit. But I already owned the original game...so, why did I decide to part with it in favor on this one? The answer may surprise you.
Would you rather have the original game release, or a more complete version of the game? Retro Bit does their due diligence to get original IP owners (and developers) approval of their products. Do you feel like this is enough to accept their re-releases (and many other companies that do it) as a "proper" rerelease?
I'd love to get your constructive opinions on this down below. Thanks and enjoy!
Avenging Spirit was bought with my own money. I am not employed by Retro Bit, Castlemania Games or any other third party, nor have I been paid or given this game as a way to "promote" it.

In the 90s, it was the pinnacle of X-citing, engaging storytelling coupled with a major media boost thanks to the comics, collectible cards, Saturday morning cartoons and of course, video games. On today’s episode of XVGM Radio, Mike and Justin invite fellow X-Men fan Carlos from the Heroes Three Podcast to share some nostalgic memories on how the gaming experiences featuring the mighty Mutants changed their lives forever. Choosing from mostly the 90s era of X-related games and their music, the boys dish the dirt on 10 awesome songs from that era. Listen to tales of Mike piddling around with ZSNES’ emulator to make music remixes of Cyclops’ theme. Hear how the X-Men changed Carlos’ life when it came to becoming an artist. Revel in Justin’s tale on how his appreciation for Genesis music has flipped the switch. They share their favorite X-heroes, open up about their pre-pubescent love of Psylocke and try to figure out what’s up with people who are anti-Capcom guitar tones.
