So more than one composer I know believes lyrics are a necessary evil for getting the melody out of a vocalist's face.
I disagree, and here is my best shot at explaining why:
00:01 "Music rules, lyrics drool," says the composer.
00:35 Replacing every lyric ever with the word, "Poop" to see if the composer notices.

So there's no shortage of excellent Beauty and the Beast music reviews, but I'd like to focus on the exceptional musical storytelling as it works in conjunction with Howard Ashman's dazzling lyrics (with a keen interest in "Tale as Old as Time" as it appears multiple places in the score. Trust me. It's seriously cool).
