In the beginning of 2020, I bought my first Eurorack modules with the aim of exploring the modular world. Then the global pandemic arrived, and in a moment of anxiety about what we were witnessing during those first months of the year, I said, “F**** it, I’ll get everything I can,” and bought €8k worth of modules.
I filmed my first experiments and uploaded them here on YouTube. Later, I put together ten of my favourite tracks and released this album: Modular Nature. Despite being niche and experimental, it did quite well on streaming platforms (“well” is relative, of course).
A few notes on some of the tracks:
07 – Flow. I remember very clearly how much I suffered from not being able to go out for a walk. So I opened the windows of my old studio and moved the Eurorack case in front of them, so I could look outside while breathing fresh air and patching cables. This track was the result. A very simple connection between Marbles, Rings, and the Chronoblob2 delay. It was healing and mesmerizing.
09 – The Last Hour of the World. March 2020 was probably the worst month, because there was very little information about the virus and what we should expect from that crazy situation. The title I chose for this track wasn’t artistic or poetic—I genuinely thought the end of the world was a real possibility.
04 – Drifting Away. At some point, a YouTube channel called Aperture used this track as background music for a video that reached 3.5 million views. I still receive messages about it, and I’m always amazed at how a simple melody can move us and enhance a video.
