Pheromones in un-neutered male mouse pee smells pretty bad to us humans, but to a female mouse in heat it is the most intoxicating aroma in the world and they will do anything to get closer to it. Male mouse pheromones are the aphrodisiac of the mouse world lol :D It has hit Sunshine and Elsie particularly hard and they spend most of their time trying to get as close to Nugget as possible.
Male mice are also very in tune to female pheromones. Scientist have found that when they smell female mouse pee, they sing. Once they come in direct contact with females the singing changes, becomes less elaborate as they go about the business of courtship and mating. Humans though cannot hear mouse song, it is too high a frequency for our ears to pick up. I have heard it once though, my first mouse Jason would sing in my ear when he was feeling particularly happy. It was barely audible and sounded like a very tiny, very quiet, canary singing. It is a shame it cannot be heard normally by us, it is actually quite pretty.
It is neat how mice know exactly where the latch to a cage door is, during editing this video I really saw this. They are smart little animals :)
