A creative reset for the weekend exploring some of my favorite selections from the ambient toolset. The Microcosm SOS looper forms the base for the 9 minute exploration, reversing a brief passage of chordal playing, creating sweeping, subtle context for the layers that build above it.
Dual Moods shine as a dynamic layering combination allowing me to freeze, pitch and swell in little motifs underneath the base loop, creating asynchronous layers of ambient sound.
Count to 5 serves as a pitching delay and creates bright piercing "melody lines" from the Moods as well as the notes I contribute directly from the guitar, and possibly most importantly in my mind, the Spaceman Aurora creates a rising and falling swept sound that creates a focal point for the back half of the arrangement. Almost conjuring my favorite sounds from the triumphant ending of Transatlanticism, it's incredible to see how swelling in and manipulating the flanger transforms the entire piece, and I think this may be the most important thing that I post about the Aurora, because it's so subtle, but so transformative at the same time.
Microcosm also serves the arrangement with the Mosaic - C, providing soft, beautiful octave up layers to contribute in to the larger melange. On the back end, the Timeline and Bigsky provide context and one final point of manipulation, as at some points it's time to capture what one collected whole presents as with the reverb at 100% wet, creating a chaotic, yet beautiful post-rock blur.
