Lookout Mountain and the neighboring Horsetooth Peak are located near the Wild Basin section of Rocky Mountain National Park. They both offer plenty of scrambling opportunities. In particular Lookout Mountain summit block requires a few stout 4th class moves to ascend due to lack of good handholds. The reward is 360° unobstructed views of Mt Meeker and other peaks in the surrounding area. After summiting Lookout, we then bushwhacked to the base of Horsetooth Peak. My wife decided to sit this one out as I went up the summit of Horsetooth. One can choose a number of different routes with varying difficulties (class 2+ to class 5). Overall we enjoyed this quiet corner of the Park. Highly recommend if you enjoy some rock scramble. Total stats: 6 miles with 2100’ elevation gain
