Over Thanksgiving Weekend 2020, BEMF presented "Looking Back at Orpheus" with free, limited-time broadcasts featuring our June 2015 production of Monteverdi's Orfeo, our November 2011 production of Charpentier's La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers, and 2 weeks of new videos. We are celebrating with a marathon of new videos—today we look back at our production of Charpentier's La Descente d'Orphée aux Enfers and La Couronne de Fleurs. After performances in Boston in 2011, BEMF took this production across North America and eventually the recording studio. The resulting CD won the 2015 GRAMMY Award for Best Opera Recording. Join Musical Directors Paul O'Dette and Stephen Stubbs, Stage Director Gilbert Blin, Concertmaster Robert Mealy, and Costume Designer Anna Watkins in new and archival interviews alongside never-before-seen excerpts from the production and the original rehearsals from videographer Kathy Wittman of Ball Square Films.
We are committed to compensating the gifted artists who bring this beautiful music to life. BEMF is able to make this concert freely available due to the generous contributions of hundreds of passionate music lovers around the world. We hope you will consider joining them by making a donation today at bemf.org/support
