Before Versailles, the seat of French Kings during the reigns of Henri IV, Louis XIII, and Louis XIV was the Louvre Palace, embedded in the heart of Paris and alive with music from the rustic folk songs heard in the kitchens to the intimate concerts of the royal apartments.
