Self- Writeousness | Long, Fatal Love Chase ☠️ Louisa Mae Alcott's Dark Side @SelfWriteousness | Uploaded October 2021 | Updated October 2024, 7 hours ago.
The book my publisher pitched to me as "like Dickens, only good."
If you're a fan of the Alcott brand of quaintness, this may not be the book for you.
This is a gothic opera featuring secrets, lies, a dashing stinker who may or may not be the devil, and a story so off-brand, Alcott couldn't even get it published under her pen name (apparently in those days, it was okay for fictional women to marry a fictional devil but not to file for fictional divorce).
00:31 Why authors use pen names
00:45 How I would have pitched this Alcott novel
01:03 Alcott vs. Dickens
01:38 The Chase Begins
03:10 The fictionalized devil character
03:54 Themes of abuse, self-harm, and triumph
Thanks for visiting the channel.
I am something of an antisocial eccentric, but I am actively trying to be more of a blessing than a curse to my fellow writers.
