Produced in 1977 by Cygnet Guild Communications for the Electricity Council, Lock Up - Light Up, stressed the need for security lighting in industrial and commercial premises and homes. The film is designed to show how security lighting helps to prevent crime at night.

When this film was made the UK had only recently suffered from the world energy crisis and the coal miners strike. Edward Heath had introduced the three-day week in 1974 and the population had experienced many power cuts. As is said by a crime prevention officer near the beginning of the film, even with the lights back on again, night crime continued to rise. The answer? A new scientific weapon, light!
