Magellan and Greyhound | Lloyd Harbor and Caumsett State Park Hike, Part 2 @MagellanandGreyhound | Uploaded September 2020 | Updated October 2024, 53 minutes ago.
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve is the former Gold Coast Estate of Marshall Field III in Lloyd Harbor and is, in my opinion, one of the best and most diverse parks on Long Island. For this hike, which I started at sunrise, I took the eastern road from the main parking lot past the Walled Garden towards the Summer and Winter Cottage, past the equestrian center and then north off the paved road through the meadows to the Masters Garage and the Marshall Field III Mansion. You can stay on the road, but why would you? I then followed the path north of the mansion along the fresh pond and to the beautiful beach looking out at Long Island Sound. I then continued westward until I began my return back along Fisherman's Drive. I have done various routes throughout this park, and usually see dozens of deer each morning. They were hiding in the fog this particular day and are hard to see in the unused video I took, but you cannot miss them if you come early.
