Did you know that lizards, like the butaan, use their tongue to smell? πŸ‘… Every time they flick their long, forked tongue, scent particles land on it. When the tongue is brought back into the mouth, it rubs against a special organ on the roof of their mouth called a Jacobson's organ. The Jacobson's organ helps differentiate what the lizard is smelling, and the forked split in the tongue communicates what direction the scent is coming from.
