Liver Function:
- Filter blood coming from digestive tract through the portal system
- Detoxification
- Digestive Function: Produces Bile
- Cholesterole Production
- Storage of fat and glycogen
- Blood sugar regulation
Topography of the Liver (Hepar):
- Holotopy: Right hypochondriac region, epigastric region, and left hypochondriac region.
- Skeletopy:
โ Superior border: Starts at the level of 10th rib, to the level of 5th intercostal space to the 5th intercostal space left to the sternum and ends at 6th intercostal space
โ Inferior border: starts at the 10th rib, goes to the level of 8-9th rib and then continues to the 6th intercostal space
โ Posteriorly: T9-T11
- Syntopy:
โ Superior border: Diaphragmatic Surface
โ Inferior border: Visceral surface
ยง Pylorus of the stomach, Colon, Duodenum, Right kidney, Stomach, Esophagus
External Surface of the Liver:
- Anterior Liver:
โ Falciform Ligament (ligamentum falciforme)
โ Right lobe and left lobe
โ Inferior margin (margo inferior)
- Posterior Liver:
โ Posterior margin (margo posterior)
โ Bare Area (area nuda)
โ Right Sagittal Groove (sulcus sagittalis dexter) formed by groove for inferior vena cava (sulcus v. cavae) and fossa for the gall bladder (fossa vesicae biliaris)
โ Left Sagittal Groove (Sulcus Sagittalis sinister)
โ Round ligament of the liver (ligamentum teres hepatis)
โ Venous Ligament of the Liver (Ligamentum venosum)
โ Transverse Groove (Porta Hepatis)

Muscular Space and The Vascular Space:

o Iliopsoas muscle
o Femoral Nerve

- Lacuna Vasorum
o Femoral Artery

o Lymph node
Femoral Canal:
- Does not exist under normal conditions, only during pathological cases like hernia
- Lacuna Vasorum is covered by Peritoneum, deep ingunal lymph nodes and the medial femoral intermuscular septum
- The other opening, hiatus saphenous is covered by fascia cribrosa
Femoral Triangle
- Borders:
- Base: M. iliopsoas and m. pectineus
- Superior: Inguinal ligament
- Medial: Adductor longus
- Lateral: Musculus sartorius
Adductor Canal
- Femoral vein and artery inside it
- Bordered by Vastus medialis, sarotrius and assuctor longus
Popliteal fossa
- Superior medial margin: M. semitendinosus and semimembranosus
- Superior lateral margin: Femoral Biceps
- Inferior medial margin: Medial head of Gastrocnemious muscle
- Inferior Lateral margin: Lateral head of the Gastrocnemious muscle
Canal of the lower region of the leg.
