This camera is positioned 7.2 km southwest of the active Caliente cone, offering a rare vantage point of Santiaguito that reveals features often hidden from the more common eastern viewpoints.
Below the dome complex lies a vast, rugged lava flow field—a broad accumulation of overlapping blocky lava flows that have advanced from the Caliente vent over many decades.
- The closest visible edge of this flow field is 3.7 km from the camera.
- These thick, slow-moving dacite flows build a steep, rubbly platform of cooled lava, ash, and collapse debris.
- Newer lava lobes occasionally inflate and shed block-and-ash avalanches down the same southwest pathways visible in this livestream.
