One concert. Two continents. Nearly two billion viewers.
On July 13, 1985, Live Aid brought the world together for one of the largest charity concerts in history. Simultaneous performances at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia were broadcast live to an estimated 1.5–1.9 billion people across more than 150 countries.
Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid was created to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The event featured many of the biggest artists of the era and demonstrated the incredible power of music to unite people around a common cause.
By the end of the day, Live Aid had raised millions of dollars for humanitarian aid and became one of the most iconic live events ever broadcast. More than just a concert, it showed how global television could inspire millions to take action.
