Ted Casteel started the LIVE program (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) in 1997, and 2 years later began certifying its first Oregon vineyards and wineries. Dedicated to providing education and independent third-party certification to wine growers and producers, the goal is to increase biodiversity, and reduce the need for pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and other commercial farming inputs. As Ted Casteel explains in the video, L.I.V.E. is designed to be a flexible program that helps farmers and wineries work alongside of nature, not against it.
