You see if you are going to believe in the literal "truth" of the bible and take it literally then literally is the only way that you can read it.
In this episode, after floating around for a while the ark finally comes to rest among the mountains but it appears that Noah hasn't noticed.
When he finally does notice he still doesn't want to come out.
Maybe he likes the smell of cow shit?
