A central expression of Franz Liszt’s multifaceted creativity was his lifelong engagement with transcription and transformation, using the piano as a medium capable of absorbing the sonorities, gestures and emotional weight of voices and orchestras alike.

The _Fanfare zur Enthüllung des Carl-August-Monument_ (1875) was written for the unveiling of the statue of Grand Duke Karl August in Weimar. Compressed into a concise, declarative form, the piece distils the language of civic ritual into sharply profiled gestures and resonant harmonic pillars. Trumpet-like calls,stark rhythmic articulation, and registral contrast evoke the symbolic function of ceremonial music, while the piano writing once again assumes an orchestral role.
