Today in #hacking in the #80s and #90s, I will demonstrate how I modified normal radios, in 5 minutes time to listen in on the #police #radio back in the early 90s. #MacGyver would even be proud on me to figure this one out -- even though my Telecommunications teach sort of nudged us.
I had to actually dig out some of the wax to compress the coil a bit more; you can see the powder residue, as the first little squeeze wasn't enough. But the idea should be clear (compress a coil -- not shorting it) will shift the frequency down.

I don't think I have cassettes left with police radio recordings, not do I have a casette player anymore ;)
