Tensions rose in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial as prosecutor Jennifer Sprague and a forensic pathologist clashed over Clancy’s injuries after her fall.
Dr. Elizabeth Laposata, a forensic pathologist and former chief medical examiner of Rhode Island, may be familiar to true crime followers from the Karen Read murder trial. She testified as a defense expert that John O'Keefe's fatal brain injuries were consistent with a backward fall onto a hard, ridged surface. Yesterday she testified for the defense about the lack of structural injuries to Clancy’s head.
Prosecutor Sprague pressed Laposata on how she could be certain about aspects of the fall, at one point showing her an image of Clancy in the hospital.
“That’s not relevant to understanding that she did fall head first,” Laposata responded. The exchange quickly became heated, with Sprague and Laposata talking over each other before Judge William Sullivan stepped in.
