A new court filing in the Lil Durk federal case reveals another layer that many people may have overlooked.
While most attention has been on the recent guilty pleas involving two Chicago defendants, prosecutors are also focusing on a secretly recorded jailhouse conversation connected to Anthony Montgomery-Wilson.
According to court filings, the government conducted what is known as a Perkins operation — where an undercover individual is placed near a person in custody in an attempt to capture voluntary statements.
Now prosecutors want parts of that recording introduced at trial, arguing the statements fall under Federal Rule of Evidence 804(b)(3), which deals with statements against penal interest.
