Network automation is no longer just about generating configurations. As automation systems become larger and more collaborative, new challenges emerge: lifecycle management, customization, reconciliation, and operational change management.

This talk shares two practical automation patterns that have repeatedly appeared across multiple projects: Ownership, which helps systems manage resource lifecycle and state transitions, and Overlays, which allow operators and automation systems to customize intent without creating copies or forks.

Rather than proposing a new framework, this session aims to share experiences and invite discussion. What automation patterns keep appearing in your environment, and should they become first-class capabilities of our automation platforms?
