Here is an 83 minute interview I conducted with Rita Tighe from Ballingate, Carnew, Co. Wicklow back in October 2021. I only got around to editing it in August 2026 and it is absolutely brilliant.
It is full of her life stories, local history, folklore and customs.
It features material ranging from working for various farmers to laying out the dead and from dances and house-parties to superstitions and the banshee. It is solid material, observed, lived and told with truth and conviction. If you want to get a grasp of life in rural north Wexford/south Wicklow in the 1930s and 40s - this is the best you'll get.
