This TV spot in support of New York City police was made by my mentor Tony Schwartz and I. Tony had been helped by the local Manhattan police and wanted to do something to help them.

How do NYC police Officers train for extremely challenging street patrol?
NYC Officers receive extensive training on the legal and ethical guidelines for the use of force. This includes understanding the policies that govern when and how force should be used.

Officers engage in realistic training scenarios that simulate high-stress situations. These scenarios are designed to help officers practice making quick, accurate decisions under pressure.

Officers are trained to assess threat levels accurately and make sound judgments about the necessity and proportionality of using force.

Officers undergo rigorous firearms training to ensure accuracy and proficiency.
These drills involve scenarios where officers must decide whether to shoot or hold fire, often using simulated weapons and live-action role players.

Training emphasizes effective communication strategies to defuse potentially violent situations without resorting to force.

Officers learn techniques for handling individuals in mental health crises or under the influence of substances, aiming to resolve situations peacefully.

Officers are trained in tactical approaches and positioning to minimize risk and enhance safety.

Training includes the use of cover and concealment to protect officers and bystanders while assessing threats.

Officers are trained to use non-lethal options to subdue suspects when appropriate. Training includes the use of beanbag rounds and other less-lethal munitions.

Officers are continuously evaluated on their decision-making and use of force, with feedback provided to ensure adherence to best practices.

It is my hope that when you watch this and read what I have written, you will increase your respect for New York City police officers.
