Life Among The Mystics with Sheryl Gottschall
For at least the last 3,000 years, people from every region of the world have experienced something extraordinary and transformational – the mystical experience. These individuals have had direct experience with Divine realms and can be found at the centre of every spiritual tradition. These people are called mystics and have, through their own experiences, gone to the deep heart of the tradition that has evolved around them. What they describe is often reported by those who have a near death or near death-like experience, as having direct contact with Divine realms.
During a mystical experience, people experience a simple unity or pure consciousness described as ‘oneness’. In addition to oneness, the features of the mystical experience include feelings of sacredness, peace, and bliss; a sense of transcending time and space; and an intuitive conviction that the experience is a source of objective truth about reality. To understand what mysticism is we need to explore the experience itself rather than the teachings that arise around it, so in this presentation we will investigate the lives of some well known mystics and their personal experiences.
