LFP batteries just hit a record 85% of China's market — the old chemistry is finished
China's LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries hit a record 84.6% share of domestic power battery installations in July 2026, up from 83.3% in June — the second straight month of record highs, while ternary (nickel-based) batteries fell to an all-time low of 14.9%. The shift reflects automakers' continued pivot toward LFP's lower cost and better safety profile, even as it typically trails ternary chemistry on energy density; total domestic installations reached 74.6 GWh in July, up 33.5% year-on-year.
