This is the Camms Road level crossing at Cranbourne, Victoria. I previously filmed the crossing in June 2021 and the video can be seen here youtube.com/watch?v=ov-ol_uH0Zw
During January 2022 the old signals were removed and the crossing rebuilt to include a new second track as part of the Cranbourne Line duplication. Brand new signals were installed and the crossing reopened on February 7, 2022.
Both new signals have unmarked bases, Siemens gate mechanisms with the new cast logo, new style Westinghouse LED lights and Artcraft gate lights. The only recycled equipment used on the signals is the electronic bells, the eastern signal has a General Signals adjusted Type 1 bell while the western signal has a General Signals Type 2 bell. Both bells ring for the entire activation.
The pedestrian crossing on the northern side of the road was rebuilt in a new position and a second new pedestrian crossing was constructed on the southern side of the road. Both pedestrian crossings have new Magnetic swing gates with alarms mounted inside the gate mechanisms. These swing gates have the newer branding which reads Magnetic Access to Progress, previous models were branded Magnetic Autocontrol.
The crossing is scheduled to be removed in 2024 and replaced by an overpass, with construction work to begin later this year. Given that these new signals will only be in service for two years it is surprising that money was spent on buying new equipment rather than using recycled equipment.
