As far as the modern European is concerned, being clean usually means taking a shower once a day, brushing your teeth twice a day and using some form of deodorant. But we have the luxury of modern plumbing systems, whitening toothpastes, electric toothbrushes and a whole plethora of bath and body products.
The Middle Ages are often portrayed as a time when Europeans were always dirty and never bathed. Obviously, this is not true of all Medievals.
Hygiene practices varied from place to place and depended a lot on social class. Let’s travel back in time to the Middle Ages and take a look at the misconception over medieval hygiene and where their bad reputation for cleanliness comes from.
