Most of the chests in Asakura P that require backtracking contain shot or MP upgrades. They are well worth your time to get as soon as you have access to them. In fact, thoroughly exploring each area and coming back after you get an upgrade that might help is an important part of maintaining your sanity on a first playthrough. Getting around the dungeon becomes extremely messy if you mess a checkpoint or two.
Some of these backtracking rooms are kind of lazily designed, and it's pretty clear that I am not well practiced on them. Somiso clearly put most of its effort into designing the main path through the game. Still, there are some clever things to be found here. Floor 29, for instance, will fuck with you endlessly in rather clever ways when you don't know where almost everything is located.
Also I'm playing like utter shit in this video, in case you didn't notice. Just kind of warning you guys ahead of time. That's OK though, my shitty play eventually invoked the wrath of the angry Asakura P gods.
あさくら!P (Asakura! P) is an extraordinarily difficult but extremely enjoyable platformer released by doujin circle そみそ (Somiso) in September of 2011. More info can be found here: somiso.pv.land.to/assacrip.html
An English patch for the game, created by Moogy and the help of others, can be found here: tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=Asakura_P
Here is a step by step guide to purchasing the game to help out those who don't understand Japanese: youtube.com/watch?v=MOgh0nm56PY
