Say Happy Valentine's Day with a song... 1910 barbershop quartet style!
Let Me Call You Sweetheart is a popular song composed a century ago by Leo Friedman and Beth Slater Whitson, and it was a huge hit for the Peerless Quartet in 1911. The catchy melody suggests plenty of harmonizing opportunities that barberhop "woodshedders" (and Kibbers) love ; it's a near guarantee that every barbershop singer has sung the chorus to Let Me Call You Sweetheart at some point! it is often performed as a Singing Valentine by barbershop quartets.

I am dreaming Dear of you, day by day
Dreaming when the skies are blue, When they're gray
When the silv'ry moonlight gleams, Still I wander on in dreams
In a land of love, it seems, Just with you
Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too
Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true
Let me call you "Sweetheart," I'm in love with you

LYRICS
Of all the money that eer I had
Ive spent it in good company
And all the harm that eer Ive done
Alas it was to none but me
And all Ive done for want of wit
To memory now I cant recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that eer I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that eer I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
Ill gently rise and Ill softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
ABOUT
The Parting Glass is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends. It was allegedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne. The poem was printed as a broadside in the 1770s. The earliest known appearance of the tune today associated with this text is as a fiddle tune called The Peacock (1782). This arrangement is inspired by the version of the Wailing Jennies.
