Kimigayo (君が代) is the Japanese national anthem., which you will likely hear during the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. The lyrics of Kimigayo are one of the oldest and shortest among the world's national anthems. In Japanese, "Kimi" indicates the Emperor, who is the symbol of the State and of the unity of the people, and the phrase "Kimigayo" indicates our State, Japan.
Please enjoy this original a cappella arrangement of this traditional hymn.
PS: I took one year of Japanese classes back in University, and I've been meaning to sing in Japanese for a while now. I hope it will sound alright! ご聴取ありがとうございました!

きみがよは (Kimigayo wa)
ちよにやちよに (Chiyo ni yachiyo ni)
さざれいしの (Sazare-ishi no)
いわおとなりて (Iwao to narite)
こけのむすまで (Koke no musu made)
May your reign
Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations,
Until the tiny pebbles
Grow into massive boulders
Lush with moss

LYRICS
Of all the money that eer I had
Ive spent it in good company
And all the harm that eer Ive done
Alas it was to none but me
And all Ive done for want of wit
To memory now I cant recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that eer I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that eer I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
Ill gently rise and Ill softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
ABOUT
The Parting Glass is a Scottish and Irish traditional song, often sung at the end of a gathering of friends. It was allegedly the most popular parting song sung in Scotland before Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne. The poem was printed as a broadside in the 1770s. The earliest known appearance of the tune today associated with this text is as a fiddle tune called The Peacock (1782). This arrangement is inspired by the version of the Wailing Jennies.
