Running is not 2D.

Running is not just composed of forward and backward forces.

Take a look at Kelvin Kiptum as he ran the fastest debut marathon in history.

You can see that running involves both side to side AND rotational movements, too.

So don’t get all stiff and rigid.

It’s natural to have some side to side and rotational movements as you run.
