‘I always think of this beautiful piece, Kiss on Wood, as a love letter from string players to their instruments. Composer James Macmillan’s original inspiration was the Good Friday verse ‘Behold the wood of the cross on which the saviour of the world was hung’. But he also said it ‘can equally represent a gesture of love on the wooden instruments making this music’. Helen Wallace, Artistic Director at Kings Place
