🚀 This video provides step by step guidelines for a powerful upgrade for Lenovo ThinkPad T490 with Core i5 i5-8265U from 2019. We improve the performance with both a new SSD and additional RAM. T490 comes with 8GB or 16GB of RAM soldered directly to the motherboard, complemented by a single DDR4 SO-DIMM slot that supports dual-channel memory for improved efficiency. This laptop has 8GB soldered and we demonstrate how to seamlessly install a new 8GB Kingston DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM, pushing the total memory capacity to 16GB. The max supported RAM for this mode is up to 40GB (8GB soldered + 32GB SO-DIMM) DDR4-2400 or 48GB for models with 16GB soldered. The second part of the video shows how to install a storage drive with bigger capacity. I installed 512GB Micron NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 SSD. In general, using an SSD dramatically reduces boot times and accelerates application launches. These two hardware upgrades not only revitalizes your T490 but also significantly enhances its overall performance, making it an essential tutorial for anyone looking to boost their laptop's capabilities.
🐧 Furthermore, I installed Ubuntu Linux distribution. I used the latest as of the moment Ubuntu LTS release. Out of the box it works great and the laptop boots in a few seconds even without any specific optimizations.
