Lemmings for C64 by Psygnosis/E&E Software, loaded from tape.
To be fair to this - it DOES provide a no-intro boot that is documented (the game comes on 3 tapes.... tape #1 is the game on side a, and the game without intro on side b. tape 2 and 3 are the various level types), so you would normally not do the first 4 minutes of this. I have captured here the intro boot, because I wanted to catch everything! I do find it interesting that the intro loads each bitmap seperatly from tape, as if it was loading from a disk based system - this actually makes a little bit of sense, to be honest, though I'll admit the Psygnosis logo is a bit of "blink and you'll miss it".
I let the main intro play because, frankly, it's pretty cool, and I like it.
Lemmings was a very late c64 release - early 1994 - and either this or Alien 3 are the last games to hit actual stores in the UK/Australia for the c64, and hence probably the commercial era games to be released on tape. There were german and polish releases after, however as I understand it they tended to be disk based rather than tape based.
Hopefully, when you wrote down the passwords, you also wrote down the tape counter ;). Additionally, I had a lot of trouble beacuse my copy would not load the "Fun" levels for some reason - I tried 4 times, but no dice.... times like this, i wish i had warp mode..... if i was smart, I would have tried on VICE first, but I am not smart, and so I spent a solid hour and a half messing around re-loading the game to try and play it.... I eventualy did try it on VICE with an image I got off the internet, and it failed there too, until i decided to just let it play - it turns out it's _normal_ for it to fail twice there.... maybe I have bad tapes, but the images are bad too! I later found a thread on lemon64 saying others had this problem too, so I guess just bad mastering?
Armed with this knowledge, I started again, hoping to get one good full capture. And.... I did!
